“4 Take delight in the LORD,
and he will give you your heart’s desires.
5 Commit everything you do to the LORD.
Trust him, and he will help you.
6 He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn,
and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun.”
– Psalm 37: 4-6
Have you been under a lot of stress lately?
I urge you to take an honest inventory of not only what you are doing, but why you are doing it. If fear is the reason you’re involved, eliminate some stress by getting your priorities straight. Your priority is not to keep everyone else in your life happy by doing all the things they expect; it is to live a life that is pleasing to God and one that you can enjoy.
Also sometimes as Christians we overload ourselves with seemingly good things. One thing I’ve learnt is to pray about the assignments I take on, so I don’t rob myself and others of God’s best by doing a half-hearted job I was never supposed to start in the first place.
John Walker said: “Imagine if God created you to be the Michelangelo of this age but you stayed so busy doing all kinds of things – good things – that you never got around to painting and sculpting. You’d end up missing the best because you got distracted chasing the good. What a disappointment, for all the people who would have been blessed if you’d stayed focused on your original purpose.”
The point I’m trying to make is that there are loads of good thing to do, but don’t get so caught up in doing them that you drift away from the right thing you’re supposed to be doing.
When you become aware of a need, don’t automatically assume you’re supposed to meet it. Learn to delegate. Release the burdens God never meant you to carry, and focus on what He called you to do.
One of our greatest challenges is determining what God doesn’t want us to do. If you’re overwhelmed you’re probably doing more than God asked.
Pray: Lord, I will delight myself in You today. You know the desires of my heart, and I entrust my dreams to You. Help me to be the person You created me to be. Help me fulfil my purpose and to stay on the right track. Amen.
